Party games
A drinking game where nobody has to drink.
Paranoia’s optional Drinking Mode turns every forfeit into a choice: take a drink, or take the card. It is for adults of legal drinking age, it only comes on when the whole group agrees, and saying no is always part of the game.

How it plays
The game itself stays the same. The app picks the next reader, they read a question nobody else can see, say one name out loud and lock it in. Then the reveal decides: green keeps the question secret for good, red shows it to everyone.
Drinking Mode changes what happens when someone will not answer. Normally they take a forfeit: two cards are dealt face down and they turn one over. With Drinking Mode on, every forfeit becomes a choice instead — drink, or take the card without seeing it first. Some Jokers join in too, picking players who each have to drink or take a card.
When you stop, the night debrief keeps score: who reached for the drink, and who turned it down and took the card instead.
Turning it on
- Open the settings and switch on Drinking mode under House rules.
- Before the first question, everyone checks the settings for the night and agrees. The start screen says whether drinking is on, so nobody is surprised halfway through.
- Playing on your own phones? The host sets Drinking Mode for the room, and every player sees it before they say they are ready.
- Drinking Mode is part of the free game. You do not need a deck or Pro to use it.
Play it responsibly
Drinking Mode is only for adults of legal drinking age. Nobody ever has to drink: the card is always on the same screen, and either choice completes the forfeit. A drink can be anything you like — water and soft drinks count, and it is good manners to have them on the table.
- Keep each drink small. A sip, not a shot.
- Have food and water around, and pace the night.
- Skip drinking challenges where they are not allowed, if you are pregnant, taking medicine that does not mix with alcohol, driving, or whenever anyone is uncomfortable.
- The game can be ended at any moment, whatever cards are in play.
Tips for a good round
- Start on Nice. Let everyone learn the reveal before the questions get personal, then move up to Mild and Spicy.
- Pass one phone. At pre-drinks or round a table, one shared iPhone or iPad is enough for the whole group.
- Pick a deck for the crowd. The Hen & Stag and Uni Life decks were made for exactly these nights.
- Make the card worth taking. The best nights are the ones where turning down the drink is just as much fun.
